The EXPO Peace Garden was dedicated in 1993 to be a beautiful, interesting, natural, peaceful spot. Former EXPO Special Ed Teacher Jim Rue imagined a lot of it, seeking to create a planting that would be innovative, yet homespun and whimsical, yet spiritual. "And we basically accepted whatever people would donate," says Rue. Through the years, Peace Garden work has been carried out by Discovery Club, various Theaters of Learning, individual classes and lots of parent volunteers.

Although recent years have seen the EXPO Peace Garden overgrow a bit, this fall, every EXPO learner will get the chance to spend some time (one class period this fall) working there, pulling weeds, moving soil, raking, planting, watering, spreading wood chips, etc. Learners should dress to be outside that day, and know that they will be asked to help. Watch for the notice leading up to your child's Peace Garden workday and feel free to join in!
